Although controversial Lokpal Bill is yet to be tabled in Parliament; however from the developments since yesterday, it appears that Lokapl Bill,like Women’s reservation Bill earlier, shall remain a “non-starter”.
Yesterday, SP Leader Mulayam Singh Yadav expressed the reservations over the draft Lokpal Bill, approved by the union cabinet.Mulayam Singh Yadav expressed his reservations that once Lokpal Bill is approved all powers will go to the hands of Darogas,Superitendent of Police and District Magistrate and they would send us(him and other MPs) to Jail. Asking the government to think over seriously as to whom it was going to give powers, He asked "whether all this could be done under pressure of one man", apparently referring to Anna Hazare.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad also joined him, saying that he had not raised any insignificant issue but the government was not paying attention and acting as if it had "disappeared". "You are going to give powers by which everybody's throats would be cut.He said there should be "consensus" before the bill is brought to parliament on Thursday.
In fact,, Lalu Prasad today also has launched tirade on Lokpal Draft in Parliament even before receiving the copy of the bill officially.
It is very interesting to note that yesterday only a combative UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi asserted that she would fight for the passage of the Lokpal bill in Parliament and lambasted Opposition for "obstructionist" tactics and criticized Team Anna for "deliberate and malicious" criticism of the government.
Taking the cue from the yesterday’s combative statement of UPA Chairperson, other senior ministers of the govt., senior leaders of the congress party and its spokespersons have launched attack on Anna and his Team.
As we all know that Lokpal Bill, in its present form, without having direct control of anti corruption ombudsman over CBI and issues of corruption of lower bureaucracy out of its purview, would be far from acceptable to Anna, his team and his millions of supporters across the country fighting for strong Lokpal bill for more than eight months now. In fact, they have already announced that Anna and his supporters would again sit on fast from 27th December and from first January onwards, they would drive “Jail Bharo campaign ” across the country.
From the events as unfolded since yesterday, it appears that a conspiracy has been hatched at the top level to see to it that Lokpal Bill, like Women’s reservation bill earlier, remains a “non-starter” and for perfect execution of the conspiracy, same two persons i.e. Laloo in the Lead followed by Mulayam have been chosen( who were also responsible for women’s reservations bill meeting the same fate in parliament)to make ruckus inside and outside the parliament against the Lokpal bill and ensure that Lokpal Bill, like women’s reservation Bill, remains a “non-starter”.
